ER is back for its 15^th and final season and while most of us fans are still mourning over the death of the creator of the show, Michael Crichton, there is something mighty nice that I would like to share with you guys. Quite a number of original cast members have returned for the final season including Anthony Edwards, who was glad to comment on his experience of coming back to ER after 6 years. Edwards told Reuters “It was really like going back to high school, in the best way. It was like going back to your favorite class and having your favorite teacher. It took about a half an hour — and after about a half an hour, I really felt like I’d never left.”

He agreed to return to the series on the condition that his pay cheque would be donated to the African charity he supports. Now, isn’t it completely disarming? His character Dr. Mark Greene died in 2002, but he will appear in flash back scenes during the final season of the ER. He is using the occasion to raise money for Shoe4Africa, an organization founded in 1995 that promotes AIDS awareness through sports and education.

I find his this gesture extremely touching. Producers Warner Bros. have agreed to donate the $125,000 that they were considering paying to Edwards. Besides Edwards’ money, Steven Spielberg is contributing another $125,000 and “E.R.” executive producer John Wells is adding an extra $50,000.

This $300,000 would be used to build 250 bed hospital in Africa- the biggest children’s clinic in the continent.

Finally, the most awaited fifteenth season of “ER” is here along with the hush hush of emergency room. This time it came with a bad news for the ERs. Viewers got rid of the cliffhanger and long lasting suspense is now over. In the last season’s finale, we saw an explosion in the ambulance. It remained hidden that who among the Pratt and Sam has got injured, as they were trying to save a FBI informant. Though the loss of any of them is sad for the viewers, but it has to happen with the one. So now it’s here, it’s Pratt who got injured.

The season begins with Tony Gates rushing to the explosion scene. There he learns that Pratt is badly injured. When he is rushed back to County, unfortunately he succumbs to his injuries. The role of Mekhi Phifer is over on the show. He was introduced in the season eight of “ER” as an enthusiastic intern. His character was shown as a cocky and over confident doc. He is also known for having timely frictions with his chief resident John Carter. Later on he proved his skills as a smart and swift emergency physician to everybody in the hospital. The entire staff got that attached with him that everyone was unhappy over his forced deputation into isolation ward.

Other than the death of this intern, this season carries another bad news that the season finale will be the series finale. This means the series won’t ever come back. The County General Hospital will never appear on the screen after nine more episodes.

This devastating news has also adversely affected the ratings and viewer ship. The fourteenth season finale closed with attracting 8.39 million viewers. But the fifteenth season’s opening pulled in just 7.9 million viewers. This has remained a good show, so I still believe that the rest of the season will pick up good ratings. Well, we can just hope for the good along with being prepared for the worst.

The ER series also shows the difficulties of the medical students who struggle to become physicians. ER is the Emmy award winning series and has completed 13 seasons as a highest rated TV drama. ER has been nominated for 123 Emmy awards and won 22 Emmy awards, George Foster Peabody Award, 4 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
