George Clooney was born on 6 May 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky, U.S.A. He is the son of the former pageant queen - Nina Apostolia Bruce (nee Warren), and Nick, a journalist, anchorman, host of game show and American Movie Classics. He is a descendent of the Irish and German ancestry. He started his studies at the Blessed Sacrament School in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. Then, he studied at St. Michael’s School in Columbus, St. Susanna School in Mason, Ohio and Sir Thomas Rich’s Grammar School for Boys in Gloucester, UK.
During his middle school, he went through Bell’s palsy, which resulted in an incapacitating condition and his face was partially paralyzed. He remained in this condition for almost one year. He later went to Augusta High School, when his parents moved to Augusta, Kentucky. He also went to the Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati, but did not complete his graduation from either of the two Universities.
Once he injured himself, in 2004, while shooting for a torture scene at the set of ‘Syriana‘. In another incidence, he and his girlfriend, met with a motorcycle accident in Weehawken, New Jersey. Clooney had broken a rib and had rashes on the body.
Before acting in ER, he co-wrote ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ along with Grant Heslov. Both of them also started a company named Smokehouse Pictures. He voiced for a dog “Sparky” in an episode of ‘South Park‘. He later also appeared in the film ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut’. While he was acting in the television series ‘ER‘, he also appeared in movies like, ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, ‘One Day Fine’, ‘The Peacemaker’, ‘Batman & Robin’, ‘Out of Sight’ and ‘Three Kings’. After leaving ‘ER‘, he appeared in many successful movies like ‘The Perfect Storm’, ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?‘, ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, ‘Ocean’s Twelve’, ‘Ocean’s Thirteen‘ and ‘Syriana‘. He became the founder of a production studio- Section Eight along with Steve Soderbergh in 2001.
As a director, he has to his credit ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind‘, ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’, ‘Unscripted‘, ‘Leatherheads‘ and ‘Farragut North’. As an executive producer, he is associated with ‘Fail Safe’, ‘Rock Star’, ‘The Big Empty’, ‘Syriana‘, ‘Michael Clayton’, ‘Playground’, etc.
He was tilted as ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by People Magazine in 1997 and then in 2006. He has received the American Cinematheque Award in 2006.
He won the Oscar Award in 2006 for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for ‘Syriana‘, and was nominated in two other categories in the same year. One was for the Best Achievement in Directing for ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ and the other, for the Best Writing, Original Screenplay for ‘Good Night, and Good Luck‘, He was again nominated in 2008, for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for ‘Michael Clayton’.
He won the Golden Globe Award in 2001 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy/ Musical for ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?‘ and in 2006 for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for ‘Syriana‘. He also earned nominations for the same awards in different categories in 1996-1998, 2006 and 2008. He was nominated in numerous other awards including the Emmy Award, in vivid categories and he won many of them.
