Anthony Edwards was born on 19 July 1962 in Santa Barbara, California, US. He is the son of Peter Edwards, an architect, and Erica Planck, an artist. He received a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England and later studied theatre at the University of Southern California, where he studied theatre. However, he left the studies because a lot of acting work was being offered to him. He is the husband of Jeanine Lobell and they have a son and three daughters.

In his early days in the field of acting, he appeared as a co-star along with Richards Crenna and Patty Duke Astin in ‘It Takes Two’, a TV series. Then he appeared in ‘Revenge of the Nerds’, ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont Heights’, ‘Top Gun’, ‘Hawks‘, ‘Downtown‘ and ‘ER‘.

He won the Golden Globe Award in 1998 and was nominated for the same in 1996, 1997 and 1999 for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV- Series- Drama for ‘ER‘. He has also won the Daytime Emmy Award -2002 for Outstanding Children’s Special for ‘My Louisiana Sky‘. He earned nominations for the Emmy Awards from 1995 to 1998 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for ‘ER‘. He won the Screen Actors Guild Award in 1996 and 1998 for the categories of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for ‘ER‘ in 1996 and 1998 and for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for ‘ER‘, from 1996-1999. He was a nominee for the same award in different categories in 1995, 2000 and 2001. In addition to this, he also earned nominations for various other awards, in vivid categories and he won some of them.

He was closer to his mother Ruth. He had a stained relation with his father who often got upset by his acts. He was unaware of the fact that his father himself turned down the chances of his promotion because he wanted to keep his family from leaving San Diego. He was stunned when he came to know this fact afterwards. He married Jennifer and they have a daughter. He did the medical internship and residency in the Emergency Department of the County General Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
